Trying to be Fashionable…Like Barbie

OMG,  did you know Black Barbie and Hispanic Barbie are in their Twenties as well?! Matter of fact, both are 29 this year according to my sources.

There were other black dolls, but they were just friends of Barbie.  Francie was introduced in 1967 and Christie in 1968.  Black Barbie was not created and did not share the same face, name, and build as Barbie until 1980….A year I’m very proud of by the way…LOL

Check out Black Barbie in her Madonna inspired garb.  Fabulous even with the curly fro’.  It’s weird, but she looks like my mom in the eighties…LOL

Check out Hispanic Barbie which made her first introduction in 1980 as well.  Gorgeous!  She helps celebrate the Hispanic girl and the beautiful culture she comes from.  They have even made a Quincinera Teresa to commemorate that special day.

The big question is, do any of you all remember playing with these dolls?  I know by the time I knew Barbie, she wasn’t rockin’ a curly fro’.  I know, because I used to cut her hair off…LOL

Happy 29th Birthday, Barbie!

You’ll be Flirty Thirty this year!  Does that make anyone feel like they are getting old?  I hope not, because we are getting better!

Here’s to Barbie for showing us that we can be Independent, Professional, Fashionista’s with a Ken, a Dream House, and a Corvette.    Though she didn’t tell us how she struggled in her youth to acquire awesomeness, she did tell us we could aspire to have nice things and be Fabulous, Flirty and Fun.

Here are some other interesting facts on Barbie.

1. Barbie doll has had more than 80 careers — everything from a rock star, a soldier, a paleontologist to a presidential candidate.

2.The Barbie doll is currently marketed in more than 150 nations around the world. (Man, she is international VIP!  What?!)

3.Barbie doll has had over 43 pets including 21 dogs, 12 horses, 3 ponies, 6 cats, a parrot, a chimpanzee, a panda, a lion cub, a giraffe and a zebra.

4.The full name of Barbie doll is “Barbie Millicent Roberts.” She is from Willows, Wisconsin and went to Willows High School. (For some reason, I don’t think Black and Hispanic Barbie, grew up there…LOL)

5.Barbie doll’s collection of couture includes designs by Givenchy, Versace, Dolce & Gabana, Vera Wang and Gucci.

6. Barbie’s signature color is Pink….(I guess that where Lisa Raye got the idea for a signature color…LOL)

7.Barbie doll has had more than a billion pair of shoes and over one hundred new additions to her wardrobe annually.  (I’m officially Jealous!)

Remember LIVE Life and don’t be plastic (keep it real).
