Trying to be Ms. Right….

05/07/2010

At least for the RIGHT dude at the RIGHT time.  I was privelaged to attend a free screening last night  of the Romantic Comedy, Ms. Wright.  Of course the movie stars, Queen Latifah, Paula Patton, Pam Grier, Phylicia Rashad, Common…and that Sexy Old Dude from Grey’s Anatomy, James Pickens, Jr.  This was an all star cast of favorites…Done Right!  Of course, you know I have to put it into the Trying Twenties perspective and let you know how I felt about it.

Matter of fact, here’s a survey I just took today about the screening.  I hope I don’t give too much away.

What were your favorite moments of the film and why?

My favorite moments happened at the beginning of the movie and at the end.  Queen Latifah’s character went on the perfect date only to leave the restaurant with dashed hopes of finding a nice dude.  He befriended her instead of wifed her up.  And of course the end when Common’s character comes to his senses and he rolls to Philly.  It was perfection how he was positioned on that Bentley waiting for her come outside.  Sorry Ladies, can’t say much else,  you gotta go see it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

For sure, Queen Latifah’s Character.  She was the epitomy of the “Sista” Girl Next Door.  She was the cool as hell chick, hung out with the fellas, kept it real, LOVED sports and gym shoes, had a great sense of humor, direction and a good head on her shoulders.  She was the Perfect Underdog as a “Single Soror” who struggled to fight the battle of the Diva Princesses and overcome stereotypes of  a dude wanting TRUE LOVE with a Down to Earth and Real Lady….LOL

What was your overall impression of the film?

I loved it!! In my mind it is RIGHT up there with Hitch.  This will be a feel good romantic comedy that I will watch over and over again.  The good girl finally gets the man, she’s smart and strong enough to upgrade him and become a full partner in his life…And not just be arm candy.

What do you feel were the main messages of the film?

That it is finally not just about looks, flirtation and game, but about finding substance, beauty, and happiness all in one package.  It’s about truly getting to know someone and care about them as a person…And realizing that is the perfect person for you.  I think that is the hardest part.  Ms. Wright, also depicts that a friendship is the best relationship foundation ever. You can build so much more and go so much higher if you like and respect the individual.  Many men or women truly don’t take the time to get on that level.

Was there anything you didn’t like about the film? If so, what?

The only thing I didn’t care for was that Pam Grier’s character was so hard on the baby and couldn’t acknowledge her worth as an everday, fly chick, but I know it was the necessary evil for building the basis of the story 🙂  So often we as women as forced to live as the ideal woman for society, instead of  being exceptional at just doing us!  Other than that, A++. It had the perfect amount of funny and the perfect amount of non-cheesiness.     It was great!  I truly do not have a bad thing to say about the movie.  It flowed well and you didn’t miss any of the storyline with editing or confusing undertones.  I’ll definately tell All the Single Ladies!

Okay Ladies, that was my commentary to you.  Go see this new Movie next weekend, Opening Night on May 14!  We must start supporting our Black Movies opening night so that they’ll keep making more quality films like this one.
